Velvet Hammerschmidt Design is a full-service, Santa Monica based residential interior design firm. A commitment to good design, delivering upon promises, and personal attention are what drive the success of the firm. This results in interiors that range across various styles, but still possess one common theme—combining clean lines, warmth and sophistication, and one constant goal—to exceed the client’s expectations.
Over the past ten years, Hammerschmidt has completed some of the most architectural and design significant homes in Los Angeles. Prior to founding Velvet Hammerschmidt Design, Hammerschmidt co-founded Toll Hammerschmidt Design, a boutique interior design firm, in 1999. Toll Hammerschmidt’s work became synonymous with comfortable, timeless interiors and happy clientele. During her time at Toll Hammerschmidt, Velvet gained a thorough understanding of residential design, which has enabled her to create uniquely designed spaces that reflect the perfect image for her clients.
Her strong architectural approach was formed early in her career while working for top international design firms such as Gensler and HLW International. She also spent a critical style-shaping period with Eric Owen Moss early in her career.
Her work has been published in Interior Design, Interiors, The Los Angeles Business Journal, and The Los Angeles Times. She was also selected by Interior Design magazine to be profiled in their “New Talent” issue as one of the top ten designers nationally to watch. She is a frequent speaker and lecturer, and is a three-time winner of the “Designers’ Challenge” television show on Home and Garden Television network with 70 million viewers. Hammerschmidt is also a recipient of the AIA Interior Architecture Award.
Velvet Hammerschmidt is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Cal State Long Beach’s BFA Interior Design program.
